How to enrol your child in a school-based leisure-time facility (SFO)

All children from grades 0 to 3 (ages 6 to 9) are guaranteed a place in a school-based leisure-time facility (SFO). You enrol your child in an SFO online using the self-service solution Digital Placement (Digital Pladsanvisning).
For children in the 4th grade, it's possible to attend SFO in the morning.

If your child can start directly in grade 0 of an ordinary municipal primary and lower-secondary school without first attending a reception class (for children with no or little knowledge of Danish), you can enrol your child online in an SFO when you enrol them in school via Digital School Enrolment (Digital Skoleindskrivning). Your child will then be enrolled in the SFO as of August 1st of the year in which the child starts school.

    • If your child is already attending a daycare facility in the municipality of Aarhus, we will automatically withdraw the child from the daycare facility with effect from July 31 of the year in which the child starts school.
    • If you need to enrol your child in an SFO after the Digital School Enrolment (Digital Skoleindskrivning) has closed or after the start of school in grade 0, please use the self-service solution Digital Placement (Digital Pladsanvisning) hereunder instead.

When using Digital Placement you must know your guarantee of school district.

There is no school-based leisure-time facility at Søndervangskolen, which is a whole-day school. Here the school times are 8.00-16.00.

However, children in grades 0 to 3 can be enrolled for childcare in the before-school and after-school periods 6.30-8.00 and 16.00-17.00.

All children in special schools or special classes and children with disabilities have the opportunity to use a school-based leisure-time facility up to and including grade 7.

If you wish for your child to attend a public school, and he or she has minimal or no knowledge of Danish, your child must attend a reception class until they are ready to go into an ordinary municipal primary and lower-secondary school class.

As the parent of a child in a reception class, you can choose to enrol your child using Digital Placement either in the school-based leisure-time facility (SFO) linked with the school where your child attends the reception class or in the child’s district school. The district school is located close to where you live.

Please note that if your child does not yet have a CPR number, you should contact the Placement Service (Pladsanvisning) in the City of Aarhus to enrol your child in an SFO.

If your child goes to a private school and you want to enrol them in a school-based leisure-time facility, you should contact your child’s school.
