School-based leisure-time facilities provide wraparound care for all children in grades 0 to 3 in ordinary municipal primary and lower-secondary schools. In Danish, this school-based leisure time offer is called 'skolefritidsordning' or in short SFO.

The facilities focus on supporting your child’s personal, social, and cultural development. Children need to learn to make decisions to be able to say yes or no to things. In this way, they learn to take responsibility for themselves when they are together with other people.

    • Attendance at an SFO is completely voluntary and it is you as a parent who pays for the care.
    • At an SFO the children are together with their friends and can also make new friendships. At the same time, they can participate in various activities both indoors and outdoors.
    • The primary language in an SFO is Danish.
    • Your child can start at an SFO before they have a CPR number. If you would like to enrol your child in a facility before they have a CPR number, you should contact the Placement Service (Pladsanvisning) in the City of Aarhus.
    • SFO's have premises that are fitted out for leisure activities, but they can also use the school’s other premises and facilities.
    • If your child goes to a private school and you want to enrol him or her in a school-based leisure-time facility, you should contact your child’s school.

Please note: Every SFO has its special features.

Read more about school-based leisure-time facilities on the schools’ websites (in Danish). Please find the websites of the different schools via the map.
