The preschool class (børnehaveklasse / 0. klasse) is a school year in which your child learns what it is to attend school. As such the preschool class works as a year of transition between kindergarten and school. After preschool class, the child will attend 1st grade which is why the preschool class is often referred to as grade 0. (0. klasse).

The preschool class teacher will make sure that the lessons develop your child’s skills in a number of areas.

    Skill areas:

    • Language
    • Mathematical awareness
    • Scientific phenomena
    • Creative and musical forms of expression
    • Body and movement
    • Engagement and socialising

All areas have a special focus on a playful approach to academic activities.

Once your child has started in the preschool class, we will assess their language. The preschool class teacher will use the language assessment to plan lessons. This means the lessons can be based on the individual child’s language requirements.

In the preschool class, your child will work together with children from other classes. This may be for theme weeks, immersion days, or projects involving the whole school or just parts of it.
