Childcare across municipalities

Have you moved from the municipality of Aarhus and wish to keep your place after moving? If so, contact the Placement Service (Pladsanvisningen) in the City of Aarhus, and we will ask your new municipality to send proof of subsidy.

• Your monthly payment depends on how much you are eligible for in subsidies from the municipality you are moving to. Payment is made to your new municipality.
• NB: As a rule, you will be charged for 12 months instead of the usual 11 months, therefore also including July.

Are you moving to the municipality of Arhus and wish to keep your childcare place in your former municipality? If so, contact the Placement Service (Pladsanvisningen) here in Aarhus. We will then send proof of subsidy to your former municipality.

• The payment is made to us. The rate depends on the price for the childcare place in your former municipality.
• NB: As a rule, you will be charged for 12 months (therefore also July), instead of the usual 11 months.

Do you live outside the municipality of Aarhus and would like your childcare to be with us? If so, contact the Placement Service (Pladsanvisningen) in the City of Aarhus.

Here is what you should be aware of beforehand:

• We cannot guarantee that your child will be allocated a place in a specific daycare facility or a specific area.
• Your child will be on the waiting list on the same terms as children living in Aarhus and will be referred according to our relevant criteria.
• It must be clear from your application that you are not moving to Aarhus.
• When you secure a place for your child in the Municipality of Aarhus, we request that your municipality of residence send proof of subsidy.
• Your monthly payment depends on how much you receive in subsidies in your municipality of residence. Payment is made to your municipality of residence.
• Please note: As a rule, you will be charged for 12 months instead of the usual 11 months, therefore also including July.

Do you live in Aarhus and do you wish to be allocated a childcare place in another municipality? If so, contact the municipality in question, so that you can be put on their waiting list.

• The other municipality can inform you of your placement options.
• When you are allocated a place in another municipality, contact the Placement Service (Pladsanvisningen) in the City of Aarhus. We will then send proof of subsidy to the municipality in question.
• The monthly payment is made to us. This is dependent on the price of the allocated place in the municipality where your child is being cared for.
• NB: As a rule, you will be charged for 12 months instead of the usual 11 months, therefore also including July.

The price for daycare services can be divided into two: the municipality’s basic subsidy and the parents’ own payment.

• The City of Aarhus’s basic subsidy in 2024 is 75% of the price of the allocated place.
• The parents’ own payment in 2024 is 25% of the price of the allocated place, regardless of the child’s age.

Have you chosen daycare services outside Aarhus? Then you can receive our basic subsidy to cover the price of the place in the other municipality. 

• 0 – 3 years of age: 130,187 kroner per year
• 3 years until starting school: 72,881 kroner per year 

If the price of childcare for a child of the same age is lower in the other municipality, then we provide a basic subsidy of 75% of the price in the other municipality.

If the price of childcare for a child of the same age is higher in the other municipality, then you will receive our basic subsidy above. You must pay the difference between our subsidy and the other municipality’s price.

You always have the option to apply for a free place. You must always apply for a free place located in the municipality in which you live.

We calculate both sibling subsidies and free places based on our prices. If the price for a place in the other municipality is higher than in Aarhus, you will be subject to a charge, even if you are entitled to a full free space.

If you move to another municipality and continue to use the place in Aarhus:

• We will then notify your new municipality that they must charge from the date you moved.
• If there is a difference in the payment, this will be charged at your first payment.
• If you move away from Aarhus during the notice period, special rules apply. See the special rules under the page on unsubscribing when moving.  

If you move from Aarhus without cancelling your place:

• You may then face a double payment if you have been given a place in your new municipality of residence. If this happens, you will be charged for the place in Aarhus.
