The blue European health insurance card

If you need medical treatment during travels in the EU, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein (EEA), or Switzerland you will have to use the Blue European health insurance card.

Content

You can obtain the blue European health insurance card if you live in Denmark, are a citizen of an EU country, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Switzerland or the United Kingdom and you are covered by national health insurance in Denmark (you have a CPR number).

The card gives you the right to the same public healthcare treatment as the citizens living in the country you are traveling in.

It is valid up to five years.

The card is free and will be sent to you 2-3 weeks after you have ordered it. It is Udbetaling Danmark that receives your registration for the card and who also issues the card.
