    Questions about private childcare arrangement

You have two options for a private childcare arrangement:

    • Employ a private childminder
    • Buy a place at an independent childminder

The difference between the two arrangements is that a private childminder takes care of your child at your home and usually only takes care of your child. An independent childminder takes care of up to five children in their own home, where you can buy a place for your child.

In both cases, you, as parents, agree with a private childminder or an independent childminder.

The City of Aarhus does not have employer responsibilities for private and independent childminders under private childcare arrangements.

If you wish to wait for a specific place, you must put your child on the waiting list. You will then have the option to be offered a municipal place.

When you are offered a place in a municipal childcare, you must interrupt your private childcare arrangement. There cannot be an overlap between the two types of childcare.

If you do not wish to be offered a place, you must go to Digital Pladsanvisning and delete or update your application.

A place for your child when your private childcare arrangement ends

If you want your child to start in municipal childcare when your private childcare arrangement ends, you must have put your child on the waiting list at least 2 months and 1 day before the agreement ends.

Example: If your private childcare arrangement ends on 31 March and you want your child to start in municipal daycare on 1 April, you must submit your application by 31 January at the latest.

The City of Aarhus does not provide subsidies for parents to care for their children.

It is also not possible to make mutual childcare agreements, for instance, two families with children taking care of each other's children and thereby receiving subsidies for this, as this would circumvent the rules on subsidies for looking after one's children.

According to the standard agreement (standardaftalen), your private childcare arrangement requires a mutual notice period of one month from the 1st or 16th of each month. However, the termination must be in writing and signed by both parties.

If either of you wishes to terminate the agreement within the first month, there is no notice period so that the agreement can end from day to day. However, the termination must still be in writing and signed by both parties.

The conditions of the standard agreement cannot be deviated from. Any deviations are, therefore, generally not the concern of the City of Aarhus. Be aware that if you, for example, sign another contract with a more extended notice period, it may result in higher personal costs, as subsidies are not provided beyond the standard agreement.

In all cases, the termination must be sent to The Placement Service (Pladsanvisning), who will adjust or stop your subsidies.

If you make any changes to the agreement, such as salary, working hours, care address, care period, tasks, or similar, you must immediately send a written amendment to The Placement Service (Pladsanvisning).

The Placement Service will then approve the changes. If the changes affect your subsidy, you will receive an adjustment.

    Changes cannot be approved retroactively.

    Your subsidy is tax-free.

The whole amount is taxable for your childminder. The income will be reported as B-income (B-indkomst).

We will report the income to The Danish Tax Agency (Skattestyrelsen).

Do you have a private childminder, and does a private wage administration company administer your arrangement? The income can be settled with A-tax (A-skat).
