Throughout 2021 and 2022 NemID will gradually be replaced by MitID.

NemID is still a secure personal login, but MitID will face future digital possibilities and challenges, and therefore everyone who has NemID must transition to MitID.

You will be able to use MitID for everything that you have used NemID for so far - net banking, your digital postbox, your digital signature, etc.

The NemID code card will cease to exist (however, do keep it as a security during the transition period) and a MitID-app will replace the current NemID-app.

Most NemID users will get MitID from their online- or mobile bank. You will be notified automatically when it is your turn. When it is your turn to get MitID, you will be notified when you log on to your online or mobile bank. If you don’t have a Danish or a Greenlandic bank, you need to request your MitID from MitID.dk.

Updating your ID-information

Depending on how your NemID was issued you may be asked to update your ID information. If so, you will receive a letter in your digital postbox (if you are exempted from digital post, you will receive a physical letter).

Some users of NemID will receive a notification on their Nem-app requesting them to scan their passports.  To do so, you must have a Danish passport and a phone that can scan it. Citizens who do not have a Danish passport should disregard this request and wait to receive a letter in their digital postbox from Digitaliseringsstyrelsen with a guide on how to update the necessary ID information to transition to MitID (you will receive a physical letter if you are exempted from receiving digital post).
