MitID allows you to use the same logon to:

  • Use public online self-service solutions
  • Access your digital post from public authorities and e.g. your insurance company.
  • Access online banking
  • Verify your identity on a range of public and private websites
  • Sign documents digitally

MitID is primarily an app but there are alternatives to using MitID if you do not have a smartphone or are unable to use the app.

MitID when moving to Aarhus from abroad

Please find a guide on how to obtain MitID when taking up residence in Aarhus / Central Denmark via International Citizen Service West in the step guides for Nordic, EU, and non-EU citizens.

You may (still) need NemID instead of MitiD for certain self-service solutions

MitID is replacing NemID as the common digital ID solution in Denmark in 2022/2023. NemID can no longer be used as of June 30, 2023.

As Denmark is transitioning from NemID to MitID certain self-service solutions will still only allow you to log on using NemID. You must be +15, have a Danish CPR number, and meet the ID requirements to obtain NemID.

If you need NemID please book an appointment with Citizen Service on 89 40 22 22.

When using NemID you enter a user ID, a password, and a one-time code from a physical code card. NemID is also available as an app that may be used after you have activated NemID.
