If you are moving to Aarhus from another municipality and your child has Danish as a second language, your child must also participate in language screening.

Why do we carry out language screening with your child?

We carry out language screening with your child to assess the level of your child’s Danish proficiency and thereafter find a school that best meets the linguistic needs of your child.

How will you be notified about the language screening?

When you wish for your child to transfer from a private school to a public school or from a school in another municipality to a public school in Aarhus you must contact the school you wish your child to attend or Competence Centre for Danish as a Second Language (in Danish: Kompetencecenter for dansk som andetsprog - DSA).

You will then receive an application for changing schools, which you must complete and return.

Your child will thereafter receive an invitation for a language screening from Competence Centre for Danish as a Second Language. You will receive the invitation by digital post.

The language screening takes place at Competence Centre for Danish as a Second Language at Læssøesgade’s School, Læssøesgade 24, 8000 Aarhus C.

What do the results of language screening mean?

The language screening results show us whether your child needs support in improving Danish language skills. This can determine whether your child is either enrolled in a regular class or enrolled in a reception class, before continuing to a regular class.

You are welcome to contact the Competence Centre for Danish as a Second Language if you have any questions about language screening assessments for your child.
